At the beginning of Summer, my husband and I were doing quite a few staycations. We’re in the middle of a transition and so even though we would have loved to travel farther or go out of the country for a few more honeymoons, it was just not possible.
Thankfully, there’s something this called ‘Staycation.’ And whoever coined the term and the act thereof is a winner in my book!
We started our summer staycations off with a stay at the Woodlands Resort and Spa which was about 45 minutes north of Houston. I’ve always loved the Woodlands area and to be able to stay there for a couple of nights was just amazing.
Dining
The Woodlands Resort and Spa has several dining options but upon check-in on a Friday night, we immediately headed to Robarb’s Steakhouse inside the resort. My husband got off from work late and this girl was getting quite hangry (hungry + angry, in case you don’t know, ha!)
Robarb’s Steakhouse has a delicious menu! It’s pretty pricey but just as expected from any high-end steakhouse that brings about good food and service.
I ordered the Natural Brick Chicken with lemon rosemary, spinach and sweet potatoes. The chicken was very savory and it tasted perfectly with the perfectly-cooked spinach that brought a good balance in the dish.
My husband opted for the Pan Seared Sea Bass with Bacon Wrapped Scallop, Crab Meat, and Lemon Butter Sauce. His dish didn’t come with the sides like mine did so he had to order them a la carte.
My husband and I love desserts. A meal doesn’t feel like a meal at all if we don’t ever end it with some kind of dessert. With some mouth-watering visuals of desserts passing by us as servers carried them to the other customer tables, we were looking forward to our dessert.
We ended up with the peanut butter pie with hot fudge and caramel drippings paired with some caramelized bananas and raspberries on the side.
In the morning, The Woodlands Resort and Spa Dining Room offered a nice variety of breakfast options: From the traditional American breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausage and pancakes to healthy options such as yogurt, fruits, and cereals, you will leave the place satisfied and ready to do fun activities at the resort.
Another dining option was the Cool Water Café which was by the Lazy River. They serve salads and classic burgers and fries as well as both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Accommodation
We stayed in a King bedroom and while the room was neat and tidy, I must admit, I wasn’t too impressed. Having stayed in several different hotels, I had higher expectations. However, our room had a nice view of the man-made lake/pond and lots of greeneries so that compensated for that.
Besides, we were out walking around the resort for the most part and just stayed in the room to sleep, take a bath, and relax a bit so it didn’t matter much. But I’ve always loved hotel rooms with that wow factor when you walk in.
This was the right side view from our room and the main photo above this post was the left side view.
Amenities
Whether you’re going as a family or as a couple, the Woodlands Resort and Spa has great amenities to offer such as their Forest Oasis Waterscape with 30-foot Tower outfitted with a double-helix water slide, waterfall and underwater marine mural.
The 1,005 foot long Lazy river was pretty amazing too! My husband and I enjoyed it quite a bit towards the evening when the sun was almost out.
The Lagoon-style relaxation pool was the perfect oasis for the adults who just want to chill and have a quiet time by the pool. The sight of the water fall with the stone background was a sight to behold.
This was another pool on the other side of the golf course.
