Last week, I went for my very first microdermabrasion at Adara Medical Spa. It’s a medical spa located here in Houston, TX. I really love the look and feel of the place. It’s very sleek and contemporary – unique from other medical spas. It’s almost as if you’ve walked into a space ship when you walk in the place. All the interior is white and the decor is very minimal.
Anyway, I originally came for chemical peel but upon consultation with Randee, the nurse staff, she decided that what’s best for me is the microdermabrasion since it has no down time. With the chemical peel, I will have a few days down time with my face chapping and all. Since it’s the holidays and I have photoshoots that need to be done, I agreed that chemical peel isn’t the right solution for me at this time.
My skin, thankfully, isn’t acne prone. I’ve never had acne problems in my youth. However, recently I’ve noticed some slight discoloration. It’s hardly noticeable, especially with make-up but I just feel the need to address it. That’s why I came to Adara.
If you’re not familiar with microdermabrasion, basically, it’s a professional facial exfoliation which is achieved with a mechanical device called Diamond Tome®. This mechanical device which is operated by Adara’s professional aesthetician, is rubbed against your face and it gently suctions the topmost layer of the skin to remove the dead skin cells. Once accomplished, you can see improvement in the overall condition of your skin, reduced fine lines and wrinkles as well as irregular skin tone. They do recommend a series of treatments in order to get the most out of it and I believe it is $80 per session.
The first step they did was basically clean my face to prepare it for the procedure. When it was done, Izzy started the microdermabrasion with the Diamond Tome®. The process was really quick! It probably only took about 10-15 minutes from cleansing to the actual suction. Once the suction was done, the pores are open so she infused it with some treatments: SkinCeuticals-Phloretin CF Serum which is a (Anti-Oxidant/ Anti-Aging Serum) These are both vital to the skin in order to see topical improvement; SkinCeuticals-B5 Gel (which has an ingredient called Hyaluronic Acid that hydrates, also its enriched with Vitamin B5) to hydrate the skin giving it that supple look, and Elta MD SPF 40, which is a cosmetically elegant sunscreen that not only protects all the products from the sun that they just applied it also hydrates the skin. The procedure was painless and I really did notice a difference in my skin. I was starting to have a line in between my eyes, I guess from squinting while driving or just being in front of the computer a lot – after the treatment, I don’t see it anymore! My skin also looks more fresh!
Here’s the wonderful staff of Adara Medical Spa: Randee, Izzy, and Chelsey. I must mention that Adara Medical Spa is affiliated with a dermatology clinic which is not very common amongst medical spas.
