Are you a budget shopper? And even if you’re usually not, who doesn’t want good deals every now and then? Imagine that each time you shop online, you get discounts. Those discounts can add up and potentially end up being thousands of dollars. Thanks to technology, there are now browser extensions that will that will help you save money effortlessly while shopping online.
What is a browser extension?
If you consider yourself to be non-techy and have never used a browser extension before, chances are you don’t know what it is and how to get it. A browser extension is simply a plug-in or an add-on and is normally for a specific function. In this case, we are looking for shopping discounts or coupon browser extensions.
You don’t need a whole lot of technical skill to install an extension. A lot of times, it’s as easy as clicking an installation button while your browser is open.
I don’t know about you but I love using online coupons. Even if it means saving me a mere $5, I’m all for it! So whenever I’m shopping online, I would sometimes spend an hour or so scouring the internet for some coupons. This normally happens if the shop doesn’t normally offer coupons so it’s hard to find one or if I am not subscribed to their newsletter where they normally send out their promotions. Sometimes I’d get lucky and sometimes I’d end up getting frustrated so I’d just pay full price.
That was before I found these extensions listed below. Gone are the days of endless coupon search on Google because these time and money saver plugins do it all for me.
Most of these extensions perform the same function. Your best bet is to install all or most of them since some may be scanning some stores that other extensions aren’t. If that makes sense.
If you’re ready to start saving money while shopping online, then check out these 10 clever browser extensions below to save you hundreds of dollars: (Arranged alphabetically)
1. Amazon Assistant
If you’re an avid Amazon shopper like myself, then it will really help you find the best price on the product you’re looking to buy from different sellers on the site. It also alerts you on some sales and deals going on if you have your push notification turned on the setting.
To get started: Just go to their website www.amazon.com. It will automatically detect your browser.
Available for: Chrome and Firefox
2. Cently by CouponFollow
It’s really annoying when you’d have to spend hours looking for a coupon code only to find that it’s invalid or expired in the end. Well, with Cently, you won’t have to face this frustration anymore. Cently finds the coupons for you and automatically applies the best one that’s working at checkout. They claim to have saved shoppers a total of $10,000,000 so far. The only downside is that it’s only available for Chrome users. If you’re not using Chrome, you might just have to download the browser to start using Cently. You can also keep going down this list!
To get started: Just go to their website www.couponfollow/checkout.
Available for: Currently just available for Chrome.
3. CouponSidekick
CouponSidekick gives you $2 just for adding the extension on your browser! No other extensions have ever done that, I believe. And not only do you get coupons but you also get cash back from shopping while using CouponSidekick. The plugin automatically alerts you when a cash back is available on the site you’re currently shopping from.
To get started: Go to www.couponcabin.com.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge
4. Gumdrop by Goodshop (FAVE Alert!)
Does shopping make you feel guilty sometimes? Well, with Gumdrop, you don’t have to! Not only does Gumdrop help you find great working coupon codes but it also donates 1-5% of your qualified shopping amount to 114,000 schools and non-profits. Plus it partnered with 45,000 online stores, including some of the biggest online retailers!
They claim to have saved shoppers a total of $208,436.575.89 as of the time of publishing this post. Whoa! That’s insane.
To get started: Go to www.goodshop.com/gumdrop to download the extension.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari
5. Honey (FAVE Alert!)
Let me tell you…this plugin has found coupons for me in sites such as ASOS and saved me at least $15-20 on a piece of clothing. It felt like I won something!
Honey searches for coupon codes on the web just like the ones mentioned above. If you happen to be on one of the online shop that supports it, Honey also searches for coupon codes and sales that are available on that particular store and automatically applies any discount code available on your shopping cart, if you already have any items there.
In addition, they have a rewards program where you earn points when you shop using the extension. The points are redeemable for gift cards at stores such as Amazon, eBay, Nordstrom, Sephora, Groupon amongst others.
To get started: Create an account on www.joinhoney.com. It’s free to create an account and the extension is free to use. Once you’ve created your account, login. Honey will automatically detect what browser you’re using.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari
6. Piggy (FAVE Alert!)
Piggy gives you $5 just for installing their browser! They claim to have saved shoppers a total of $$36,312,816.23 at the time of publishing this post. Not only does it find you coupons at 3,000 stores, you also get up to 20% cash back.
I particularly like this one for not just the incentive of getting discounts but the cash back as well.
To get started: Just go to www.joinpiggy.com to download the app.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari
7. PriceBlink
PriceBlink is just like PriceScout except that it automatically hides itself when you’re not using your browser to shop. Quite honestly, I’m not sure if this is anything that concerns most users but in my experience, browser plugins are not usually interfering anyways.
It scans 11,000 online stores for price comparison and tells you which one has the lowest price. Its automatic coupon notifications will alert you to money-saving coupons without having to leave the site you’re shopping.
Their site claims that each coupon is reviewed by their editor so you don’t have to enter expired coupon codes. This is definitely a plus. It’s quite frustrating when you find a coupon and turns out to be expired or invalid.
To get started: Just go to their website www.priceblink.com. It will then automatically detect the browser you’re using.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari
8. PriceScout
I don’t know about you but I love using online coupons. Even if it means saving me a mere $5, I’m all for it! So whenever I’m shopping online, I would sometimes spend a few minutes scouring the internet for some coupons. This happens if the shop doesn’t normally offer coupons so it’s hard to find one or if I am not subscribed to their newsletter where they send out their promotions. Sometimes I’d get lucky and sometimes I’d end up getting frustrated so I’d just pay full price after all the searching.
PriceScout works similar to Honey, except that it also does price comparison while you’re using the extension. It scans over 21,000 websites to find the best deal for you. So not only will you be getting a coupon (if it finds any), you can also be rest assured that you got the best price.
To get started: Create an account for free at www.pricescout.io.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Opera but whatever browser you’re using, PriceScout website will detect it so it’s an easy install.
9. Qmee
If Gumdrop donates a portion of your shopping amount to a good cause, Qmee not only helps you find discounts but it pays YOU to search using the extension. You can also get paid for answering their quick surveys! You can get paid through PayPal or earn points that you can redeem on online shops they are partner with. Your next shopping money might just be on them!
To get started: Go to www.qmee.com to create an account for free.
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Opera
10. Wikibuy
The difference Wikibuy and Amazon Assistant is that Amazon assistant only browses deals on Amazon itself and not other websites. I think most shoppers think that Amazon has the best prices out there. It may be the case on some products sometimes. But not all the time. As an Amazon seller myself, I know that we have the ability to change prices, even after the product has been listed. Amazon shoppers may get the highest price from the seller or the lowest, depending on how it’s set.
Here’s where Wikibuy can come in handy.
While browsing for some products on Amazon, Wikibuy automatically explores and evaluates other sellers offering the same product(s) from other websites for a lower price or better discount coupon code. It also notifies you when prices drop on products that you’ve viewed and purchased.
To get started: Just go to their website www.wikibuy.com.
Available for: Currently just available for Chrome.
Don’t forget to install any of these before you do any of your next shopping!
