A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I had a little road trip to Austin, Texas – the state's capital and the nation's Live Music city! It's a very much needed short getaway and I was thrilled that my friends came with me.
We were invited to stay at the Lone Star Court, which is a boutique hotel that has a vintage vibe to it coupled with a campground courtyard setting outside, surrounded by the hotel rooms. It's located within the city's newest residential and commercial area – the Domain. It's literally a few steps from an upscale mall.
There's a lot of unique things about this property. First of all, from the outside, it looks kinda like a huge modern barn house. As soon as you step inside the reception and lobby area, the combination of rustic and traditional interior design will no doubt give you that Texas feel to it. The staff that took care of us were friendly. Not only that, we also encountered southern hospitality from some guests of the hotel who kindly offered to help us bring some of our luggages in our room since my friends and I packed like we're moving to Austin.
So when you step outside, you will see a campground setting surrounded by rustic-looking hotel rooms with wood facade. There were a couple of fire pits in the courtyard, a meeting hall, and corridors are accented with orange rocking chairs. The property makes you feel like you're away from the city when in actuality, you're not. If you like a "camp" or a "homey" setting, I think you will really enjoy this place. There are only 123 rooms so the areas don't really get packed. There's plenty of areas to hang and just chill – during the day or at night.
The pool area is located in front of the Water Trough which is the breakfast area in the morning and turns into a bar with live music on some nights.

The meeting hall.
Some fire areas lit up at night.
And here's the room. It's not fancy by any means but it's retro-inspired. So fun and playful! Absolutely loved the color combinations used. Being the creative person that I am (and y'all know how I love colors!), I always notice these things. I believe that the beds were customized for this particular hotel. We had the double/double room since there's three of us. It's a pretty good size for 3 people. There are little accents here and there that are vintage-inspired as well such as the lamp and the radio that's sitting in between the beds. Wish I had taken a close-up photo of it because it is pretty fascinating. You will also notice the big sliding door to the bathroom.
One of the vintage-inspired things inside the room that really amused me was the mint-colored refrigerator! I wish I could take home one of those.
The refrigerator was full of beverages available for your consumption for a fee. Here's a sample of what you will find inside.
The bathroom is a little far from being vintage-inspired. But who really cares anyways? Ha! For as long as it's nice, clean, and functional, it's all good! It's a little more modern than the rest of the room.
And…here's the most tempting part of the room! The Mini Bar. I have sweet tooth problems and I love chips and salsa so I tried too hard not to give-in. Yes, I was successful! I pretended it's not there. But I love how they set this up. They make it so inviting and un-intimidating. You know how other hotels have them set-up so nicely you wouldn't want to touch it? I love how this was organized but it's still not so organized that you'd feel hesitant to even move it.
This is the Water Trough – the hotel's on-site restaurant and bar. It's the breakfast area in the morning and turns into a bar at night. The hotel offers a delicious complimentary continental breakfast which includes eggs, bacons, different kind of breads, cereal, fruits and drinks.
On the night that we checked-in, we got to the hotel pretty late. We were tired and hungry but didn't want to go out anymore so we tried the Water Trough. There happened to be a live music that night and the guy who performed was really good. The food at the Water Trough was really good too. Although we had a little problem in getting our food quick and right, they rectified it by offering the drinks my friends ordered as complimentary.
In addition to the Water Trough, there are a couple of food trucks outside the property. One was Cupcaking Desire which was obviously cupcakes and all that, while the other was called Feed Store. Unfortunately, we never got a chance to try them both. It seems that 3 days aren't really enough when you're traveling and wanting to explore a lot of things. I will definitely make it a point to try them next time I visit though.
The Lone Star Court vintage car!
Overall, in my opinion, the Lone Star Court provides a unique accommodation for those that want something different than the usual hotel setting. If you love camp setting, you will enjoy this place. Although the accommodation isn't necessarily in tents and what not, the combination of fire pits, rustic ambiance, and retro interior offers such a fun and playful place to stay at. In addition to the fun fire pits, live music, and food trucks, they also have free bike rentals in the property.
