According to ChooseMyPlate.gov, fruits and vegetables should make up half of our plate at any given meal—about 30 percent vegetables and 20 percent fruit. But how many of us really do eat this much fruits and veggies? Blame it on lack of time or limited choices of food during work week. But this is where juicing helps.
Detoxifies your body.
Juices of fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrients. When we drink the juice of fruits and vegetables (which is an alkaline), the cells of our body release acids which are toxins (most disease cells thrive in acidic environment) which then gets excreted through our body’s elimination system.

Juicing can also help boost your energy. Fruits and vegetables contain ingredients that can power you up naturally. They are a great source of electrolyte minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium which are important for numerous cellular processes for energy production amongst other things.

Weight gain has a lot to do with stress, processed food, lack of exercise, and improper digestion. Juicing is a rich source of enzymes that are essential to the digestive process. So here’s my 10-ingredient refreshing detox recipe, full of power fruits and veggies:
Low in calorie, high in fiber, iron, vitamin A, C, and K. Filled with anti-oxidants, great for cardiovascular support, overall eye health, and helps prevent cancer.
Hgh in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese. Flavonoids in spinach help prevent cholesterol from oxidizing, thereby protecting our bodies from free radicals.
- Cucumber (I normally use half )
I personally love the taste of cucumber. This is what makes this recipe refreshing. But aside from the fact that it is rich in vitamins such as A, B, C, K Manganese, and Copper, it is also detoxifies, prevents cardiovascular disease, promotes weight loss, treats cancer, among other things.
I mainly add this to add a little “kick” to the flavor. However, celery is a source of fiber and a whole lot of health benefits such as lowers high cholesterol and blood pressure, reduces inflammation, boosts digestion and helps in weight loss, and many more.
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Remember that famous saying? Apples are full of anti-oxidants, fights heart disease, high in fiber, improves digestive health, helps fight diabetes, reduces the risk of developing cancer, heart disease, and hypertension.
Just like the other fruits and veggies in this recipe, blackberries are full of vitamins and nutrients. But one of its health benefits that stand out the most is its ability to boost brain health and helps prevent memory loss.
Blueberries are high in fiber which is widely recognized as an important factor in weight loss.
I add a banana to add a little sweetness to the recipe. However, we already know that bananas are rich in potassium. Bananas are aid in lowering blood pressure, prevents asthma, lowers risk of heart disease, and diabetes.
- Orange or Orange Juice
I personally add Simply Orange orange juice instead of juicing fresh oranges to add a little more liquid to the juice. Often times, the juice is thick without water or liquid. So instead of using fresh oranges or water, I use Simply Orange juice. I also love the taste of it.
- Flax Seeds
Flax seeds contain Omega-3 essential fatty acids or good fats which are good for heart health. I got ours from a local vitamin store. But here is a popular and well-rated brand of flax seeds on Amazon.
I don’t have an exact measurement for each ingredient. I would suggest going by what your capacity is. For my husband, I normally get a handful of each ingredient, with the exception of the flax seeds which I normally add 1 tablespoon of, and orange juice which I normally add a cup of.
How To Juice Prep for The Whole Week:
First let’s talk about juicers or blenders. If you’re new to juicing and you’re holding back thinking that you’d have to get those expensive juicers, don’t. I personally just use this Nutro Ninja Blender with Auto-IQ. I bought it for $199 a couple of years ago but it’s now available for only $159.99 on Amazon and it’s doing great getting the job done. When my husband was single, he was using NutriBullet which is only $60 and it perfectly served him as well. However, I have some friends who swear by Vitamix. Pick whatever fits your budget.
Juicing may seem a lot of work at first. But what I normally do is prepare 3 days or one week ahead of time (depending on how much time I have in prepping) and put them in a freezer bag and just stock them up in the freezer. I got my freezer bags from Walmart but you can get these two packs of 120 Ziploc freezer bag for less than $10. You can wash them and re-use it a few more times until it completely wears out.
Some believe that freezing reduces the nutrients in the fruits and vegetables. I, personally, am not too worried about it. However, if you are, prepare your juice ingredients 3 days ahead of time and just put them in the refrigerator instead of the freezer.
