About a couple of weeks ago, ask I shared with you my amazing staycation at Hotel Sorella CityCentre here in Houston. If you missed reading that, you can visit it here. I published it after the Christmas holiday so you might still be in food coma then. In case you just woke up from your holidays food coma, I really suggest reading it!
Well before turning in for the night at Hotel Sorella CityCentre, my mom and I had a lovely dinner at Radio Milano which is located right on the lobby of the hotel. I was told that the menu has amazing reviews and I couldn't wait to try it. Boy, was I disappointed or not? Let me tell you the story with my photos below. Make sure to scroll slowly and let your mouth water with the photos of the delicious food! I think I might have just gone ahead of myself there…
The place is really cozy and nice. I love the ambiance. I believe the atmosphere of the restaurant totally counts. It's always a plus! They had booths and regular tables and a giant glass wine cellar divides the entrance and the dining area.
Cheers! Because I can't drink anything other than white wine or champagne, I ordered this delicious white wine as suggested by our server Lester (I believe that's his name.). He is very knowledgeable about Radio Milano's menu and helped us tremendously in our dinner selections. If there was anything that he was not sure of, he would go back in the kitchen to ask the chef to make sure he's not giving us any wrong information. We really enjoyed the service. I must also mention that he had a server assistant to help him make sure that we have everything we need and make our dining experience enjoyable. I was going to post a photo with them but it came out blurred.
One of the other servers noticed that I was taking a photo of this bread and he said laughingly, "I've seen people take pictures of the food, but not the bread!" I laughed too but I can't help it because this bread is just darn delicious! I seriously could have gone throughout the night just eating the bread and still rave about Radio Milano. Ha! My birthday is coming up so if you want to make me happy, bring me some bread from Radio Milano! *Wink*
Kidding aside, their dinner menu was not massive but since we are not mostly familiar with Italian food, other than pizza and pasta, like I said, our server Lester helped us.
We started with two appetizers. First was the Beet Ribbon which came with Texas goat cheese, arugula, and walnut for textures. I don't know of many people that are fans of beets but honestly, after trying this Beet Ribbon appetizer at Radio Milano, they will have a change of mind! I am seriously amazed at how the chef even came about this recipe! Both my mom and I loved this and I'm glad we selected it.
The other appetizer we had was this Siciliana Pizza which had pesto, garlic, wild mushroom, fontina, and rosemary. If you love cooking, then you probably know what these ingredients are. I don't – except for maybe the garlic! Let me let you in a little secret which is no secret amongst my friends – I don't cook. Now that I've gotten that out of the way…I don't know how else to describe this pizza other than it's a pizza like no other! I must warn you that because it's so amazing, you might have an out-of-body experience during or after consumption so eat at your own risk. I can promise you though that you will thoroughly enjoy it and you will eventually return to your body!
As if we weren't full yet, my mom and I ordered our main entrée. Since we don't have a huge capacity, we shared most of the dish. We had what's called Risotto which is a pork belly with porcini mushrooms, pecorino romano, and demi. That's a mouthful, isn't it? While I am not a fan of the fat in the pork belly, I still enjoyed a portion without it and the rice that came with it. I think with the exception of it being a little salty for my mom's taste, it was both interesting and good! Something new for my taste buds.
Our second entrée was this salmon with Jerusalem artichoke, vegetable rag out and salsa verde. You can tell the fish was fresh. If you love salmon, I am sure you will enjoy this one! Interestingly, the salmon had its skin which seems to be fried because it was crispy but the meat underneath was so tender. It was pretty amazing how the chef did it.
And finally for the dessert…my mom and I opted for the one with 3 chocolate textures. If you're a dessert or a chocolate junkie, you can't miss having this! If you want to go to heaven, have this as dessert. (Of course, that's not theologically right, but y'all know what I mean!)
Meet Chef Hernandez! He's the man! The man behind the delicious menu I showed you above. He started as a pastry chef so you can just imagine how delicious Radio Milano's desserts are! He was so kind to go out and meet us.
Overall, Radio Milano is definitely one of the fine restaurants in Houston that you must try, if you haven't yet. You will enjoy the place, the food, and the service! Valentine's Day is coming up and if you're planning to take your beau out on a dinner date, this place is highly-recommended! The price point is reasonable for the delicious menu and experience. You might need to make reservations as early as now. They are located at City Centre Houston and on the lobby of Hotel Sorella, 800 Sorella Court.
