A few weeks ago, I received a free full size sample of Shielo Hair Products to try and review. When I first received the offer to review them, I was hesitant because I’m already happy with my current hair care routine. I decided to look at their products anyway and checked out the information.
Since I have been using paraben and sulfate-free products for my hair, those were the first things I looked at and discovered that their products are also paraben-free, although they did not necessarily specify they are sulfate-free. Sulfates are chemicals commonly used as cleansers while parabens are preservatives – both supposedly harmful in our bodies. I’m assuming that in moderate amounts, they are not dangerous but regular use may eventually cause some damage. They are pretty common ingredients in cheaper cosmetic and hair care products.
I decided to take on the offer and try out the products because of the natural ingredients the products contain: Lemon Fruit Extract, Shea Butter, Sunflower, Algae Extract, Hydrolized Wheat Protein, White Tea, Cactus, Lemon, Hibiscus Flower, Sugarcane and Apple – which are, according to the company, the hydrating ingredients. I picked the Hydrate Moisturizing Shampoo, the Hydrate Vibrancy Conditioner, Hydrate Sealing Mist, and Antioxidant Leave-In Protectant. However, for some reason, I only received the 3 products below. The prices are comparable to Moroccan Oil products which I am using.
My hair is naturally straight, soft, and because I have been using Moroccan Oil products for a while, it is already pretty much hydrated. Regular use of the Shielo shampoo and conditioner just maintained its softness and moisturization but I really didn’t notice much difference in its luster while using the products. In fact, I had to keep using my Moroccan Oil hair serum because without it, my hair just doesn’t seem shiny.
What I love though is the smell of shea butter on my hair and I noticed that the conditioner is easier to lather and the bottle lasted longer than that of Moroccan’s. The other product I received was the Antioxidant which I guess is some sort of leave-in conditioner. I did not use it regularly throughout the 3-week period because I preferred the Moroccan Oil hair serum over it. However, I noticed that whenever I’m using it towards the end of my hair when I’m styling/curling with my flat iron, the ends don’t end up being dry and rough as it normally would.
Overall, I would say that if your hair is damaged and extremely dry, Shielo products, which contain natural ingredients for hydration, are good to try. If you’re looking to switch hair care routine and you’ve never tried paraben-free products before, go check out Shielo.
