Here's another one of the many confessions I've made on this blog: I didn't use to do laundry before I got married. And no, not that I wear dirty clothes all the time (or I would have not found a husband!). I just didn't do them since my mom lived with me. I guess that's one of the benefits when you're all grown up and your parent lives with you. They can alleviate you from doing all the other chores on your own, such as…the laundry!
But when I got married, I had to start doing the laundry. Ha, fun stuff! Doing laundry seems like an easy chore right? But there's a few factors that come with it so that your clothes come out cleaner.
Here are some tips:
1. Use the right washer.
Using the right washer is a MUST and I'm sure you already are aware that not all washers are created equal. Some of them you can immediately recognize by the price. You'd think that the more expensive ones work better than the cheap ones. That's correct. You always get what you pay for. But there's also the front load and the top load difference. There are inexpensive front load and there are expensive front load; there are inexpensive top load and there's expensive top load. But other than the price, what really is the difference between the top load and the front load?

Benefits would be that cleaning performance within front load is better than top load; front loaders will typically use less water and also consume less electricity, the washer also spins faster to help keep clothes drier to reduce overall drying time.

2. Separate the light, color, and whites.
This is obviously basic. I feel like if you don't know this, you don't know how to do laundry at all. But be sure to sort out your clothes based on the color. In addition, I also like to separate some materials sometimes if I could help it. For example, I would do all denim pants if we have a lot between my husband and I. I also normally don't wash linens and towels with the clothes.
3. Don't overload the washer.
In connection with the above, don't overload your washer. Be sure to make a separate load for linens, towels, and heavy clothing items. Overloading your washer makes it inefficient in washing and your clothes will turn out dingy over time since the washer is working harder but less inefficient for heavier loads.
4. Use only the right detergent and other laundry materials.
Read your washer's instruction manual. We have a high efficiency washer so we only use high efficiency laundry detergent. Using otherwise could damage your clothes. In addition, I also use bleaching materials for our whites such as Oxiclean or Clorox. However, be mindful not to combine both.

I've used a top loader most my life and earlier this year I tried a front loader while visiting friends. I have to say, it was a great experience.
