Today’s post isn’t necessarily a tutorial per se. But I would like to show you the basics of layering and at the same time mixing of trends. The layering I did here is very simple: A button down underneath and a sweater. Most common layering people do is just have a long sleeves shirt underneath and a sweater. But if you want to be stylish, using a button down is better. You put out the collar above the sweater neckline and voila! I’m sure you have seen this before. If you’re wearing a skirt, weather it’s a pencil or an A-line, cinching your waist with a belt will at least put a figure on the outfit and not make you look lousy. However, you can skip that part if your look is more laid back or sporty such as wearing leggings or jeans.
Now the mixing of trends part…there’s one thing I keep in mind: Making sure that the prints and colors don’t clash. Trends can come in textures, colors, prints, and styles. In this outfit, I have pretty much all of them! The styles: sweater, midi, button down. The colors: burgundy, blue, cream and black. The texture: knit, glossy, etc. The prints: leopard (on the pumps) and the stripes in the skirt. So it seems that there’s a lot going on. But all together, they make a cohesive whole. Note that there are prints that go well together – in this case the leopard and the stripes. Makes sense?
Anyway, I’m really lovin’ this stripes midi skirt from Lulu’s by the way. I have seen Rach Parcel of Pink Peonies wear the same just today while writing this blog post. Because of the organza material, you can also dress it up for the holidays! While I styled the sweater for a more chic look here, you can also go for a sporty or laid back look with it. Both pieces are still available. Hooray!!! Gotta love Lulu’s! *Wink*
